About
“Blast from the past”, “blabbermouth”, “that blog by that guy”, whatever you want to call it is my way of sharing knowledge, ideas and even code. I publish howto-guides, code snippets, and various articles all connected to Linux or general geekiness in some way. Sometimes I write articles aimed at people who have barely even touched the command-line, and sometimes I write articles that might even interest those who have been using Linux far longer than I have.
If you want to learn more about Linux, bash, programming, or anything related to technology, you might have stumbled (if you came from stumbleupon, that would make a great pun) onto a semi-hidden treasure.
So who am I?
I’m a regular Linux user, just like you. I don’t have any fancy degrees or even any work experience related to Linux. I’ve never been published in any Linux magazines (even though I would love to!), nor have I ever spoken at any Linux conventions. However, I do have a passion for learning about things that interest me, and if you’ve come to this website I’m pretty sure we have similar interests.
While we’re on the subject of my shortcomings, I’m also quite young. This year I’ll be turning nineteen, so I’m afraid I’m still too young to grow a proper Unix beard. I am old enough to go to university though, which is what I’ll be doing this fall. If all goes as planned, I’ll be studying software engineering at Luleå University of Technology. While I’m very interested in the development side of things, I’m even more interested in the analytical and managerial work, and so I think software engineering will probably be a good mix for me.
But enough about that for now. As you might have figured out by now, I’m Swedish. If you don’t already know, Sweden is that long country in northern Europe where the women are all blond and polar bears walk the streets (yes, everything you ever heard about this place is true). I just recently moved up to Luleå, which is a mid-sized city at the very north of the country.
What would drive a man to such madness, you ask? Why would anyone voluntarily move further to the north when he already has to deal with cold, snowy winters and rainy summers? I’m afraid love is the only answer I can give you. Last year a sami chief offered to sell me one of his daughters in exchange for a bash script to let him manage his raindeers. Having an eye for catching great offers, I of course went ahead and bought her. Now that I’ve found an igloo for us up in Sápmi, we can live happily ever after…
If you want to get in touch with me, there are a couple of different ways. One way is to go to the contact page and fill out the contact form. Another way is to send me an email directly (my email can be found at the very bottom of this page). If you have a very short message for me, you can also find me on twitter, where my username is tommybrunn.
