Top 15 wallpapers from my collection

11/04/2009

I’m very interested in the various aspects of design. Because of this, I’ve gathered a rather impressive collection of wallpapers that I think are absolutely stunning. In this post I’m going to share some of the wallpapers that I think are the very best, and explain what I think makes them so special.

15. Hardwood Lights

Maybe I’m just retarded, but I don’t mind staring at a wooden floor for hours on end. Especially not when the floor looks this good. If you, like me, like having a panel on the top (or if you’re a Mac user and don’t really have a choice) the lights look great!

14. Tennis net

I have no idea where I got this one from. While I usually prefer illustrations to photos for my wallpapers, I just love the contrast in this one. It looks absolutely amazing together with some kind of dark theme (the Dust gnome theme for example).

13. Surprise

What this wallpaper lacks in texture, it more than makes up for in cuteness! If you have a lot of icons and you want to be able to read the text between the icons, this might be a good choice for you.

12. Aerostream

Aerostream is a wallpaper that fits with what I like to call “plastic” themes (*cough* Vista *cough*). If that’s your thing, then Aerostream is a great choice for you.Smooth simplicity with perfectly placed abstract shapes to introduce artistic flow, combines to create a great looking wallpaper.

11. My Concrete Playground

My Concrete Playground offers a balanced and beautiful color scheme combined with interesting geometric structures. It might seem quite busy, but combined with a simple theme, it looks very sleek and calm.

10. Zixpk

The smooth gradient together with an amazingly earthy and natural texture makes for one hell of a nice wallpaper. Combine it with matching theme colors and you’ve got yourself a great looking desktop with a touch of nature.

9. Motionsenses

Another one of those wallpapers to go with a more plastic look. This one features some fantastic colors and amazing flow.

8. Tessarlo

One of the few wallpapers in my collection that go great with brighter themes. The wooden texture is nice, but what really makes this wallpaper stand out is the unique artwork and the attention to detail that has been put into it. Every time I look at it, I find something new to look at.

7. Regal Blue

What could possibly make a better wallpaper, than a wallpaper? While the pattern itself is gorgeous, the lighting is what makes the wallpaper pop.

6. The Legend Goes

Great illustrations make for excellent wallpapers. The goofy look together with the beautiful colors and lighting, this wallpaper can be used together with almost any kind of theme (with the possible exception of Vista’s plastic look).

5. Night Fairies

Some people say it’s been done to death by now, but I say glowing orbs can never get old. The blurring and the colors add a third dimension to your desktop that you didn’t even know was possible.

4. Psychedelic

This may very well be the product of a very good acid trip. Regardless of whether that’s the case, the author shows off amazing skills in combining colors that you might think wouldn’t go well together, and still create a masterpiece.

3. Collantes

While the font itself is beautiful, what really gets me going is the great looking background. The only downside to it is that it can be kind of hard to read the text beneath the desktop icons.

2. De Fréu

One of my all-time favorite wallpapers, De Fréu is another one of those wooden floors that I can just sit and stare at. It goes great with pretty much any kind of theme, and icon texts are perfectly readable.

1. Night in the Forest

Night in the Forest is Andrew Groves of IMAKETHINGS.co.uk’s entry into the Kitsune Noir desktop wallpaper project. I’m a huge fan of his, and I just can’t get enough of his illustration style! The cuteness of his little monsters just captures my heart, drapes it in pink velvet and coats it in cotton candy - or something like that. Anyway, it’s an amazing wallpaper that would make a great addition to any desktop.

Bonus wallpaper!

As an added bonus, I’m going to throw in a picture that is very dear to me. While I can’t say that it has any artistic value at all, it makes me smile everytime I see it.
